Yup, you read that right! Okay…we maybe tricked you a little bit, but hopefully this blog will help you understand just what we mean.

Everyone these days are talking about High Intensity Training (HIT) and we are no different. Why slog away in the gym for two hours or more when you can get the same benefit – if not better – in just 20 or 30 minutes? Sounds too good to be true right? But that is exactly what HIT is all about!

HIT training is great for those who are short on time but want to maximise the workout time available. So not only can you be in, out and catching up with your friends in no time but HIT training leads to greater excess post-exercise oxygen consumption compared to continuous exercise. This means that after you have finished exercising, your body will continue to burn calories at a higher rate than normal. And that’s where your burning fat when doing nothing kicks in. Put in the 30 minutes hard work and you can continue to be burning fat at a higher metabolic rate for up to 24 hours post work-out; not too shabby right?

There are also studies which show that HIT can really help improve your VO2 Max. This is essentially a measurement of how fit you are and is highly linked to your risk of mortality; those with a higher VO2 max have a lower risk of death .

For people who find continuous training boring HIT can be a great choice as the constant change of pace means that you are engaged throughout your workout.

HIT should be and is hard going when performed correctly. But this intensity of exercise can be exhilarating and leave you feeling with a real sense of accomplishment.

If you’re interested in trying out this kind of training then get in touch now and book yourself in to one of our outdoor HIT bootcamp sessions available on Monday evenings.
